Shining Light
A couple nights ago, I spoke with a friend.
A friend who I met over 20 years ago.
Back when we were teenagers.
She was a nice girl. Hung with a different crowd than I did.
We connected in music class.
We played the flute together.
And so the friendship began.
She has an interesting story about how she came to faith in Christ, and I was privileged to be a witness to her experience.
There were some verses she shared with me 20 years ago, that were special verses to her then.
Interestingly enough I was reminded of those verses when talking to her the other night.
She recently shared with a group of young adults, something that God put on her heart.
She shared God's love.
His grace.
His message.
She shared about a controversial topic.
And while there were some who were challenged by what she spoke, and they may not have agreed with her, she did what God wanted her to do.
She was a light.
She let her light shine.
And that is what reminded me of the verses she connected with all those years ago.
Matthew 5:14-16.
~ "You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they
may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." ~ (NIV)
So she did shine.
Light was poured out.
Sometimes though, people decide that light exposes what they want to keep hidden. Truths that they don't want to face or accept.
But ultimately, God is glorified. His truth will always reign.
His light will always shine.
Jesus Himself says ~ "I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life." ~ (NIV)
When you walk in darkness, you bump into a lot of things.
You are hurt.
You cause hurt to others.
Desire the freedom of walking in the Light; of living in the light of life.
Another illuminating verse says ~ "... God is light. In Him there is no darkness at all." (NIV)
Absence of darkness ~ fear, anxiety, anger, and other effects of sin ~ sounds good to me.
Live in the light.
Live in His light.
Shine it out so that the world can see.
Let it shine, baby.
Let it shine.
