What do we do About Christmas? ("We Three Kings")

It comes every year.
The hope of something new. The hope of something good. The hope of something cheerful.
Halloween is over, and good riddance!
Be gone, dark and ghastly!
Bring on Christmas!
Enter in light and hope.
Because, more than ever, we need something good and beautiful to celebrate.
We need the warmth of Christmas music, the cozy of Christmas movies, the beauty of decorations, the offering of gifts, the yum of Christmas treats.
We need the hope of Christmas.
So what do we do about it?

A small group of men from east of Bethelem, who were well studied in the science of the night skies, journeyed far just for the opportunity to meet the Christmas babe. They desired to meet the King.
And what do you bring a king?
Good gifts.
It is amazing that they showered the new baby with gifts suited for a king, a Saviour.
They gave costly gifts. They gave meaningful gifts.
Gifts of sacrifice.
Many years earlier, in the times of a woman named Esther, a victory came about for the Hebrew people. Their lives had been at stake, and a great rescue had taken place. (See the book of Esther in the Bible.)
And you know what they did?
They feasted with gladness and gave gifts to each other.
Victory results in celebration.
Celebration involves feasting and gift-giving.

So here we are today. The three magi from the east are long gone, their story recorded in history as a beautiful visit to a new mom and dad and their precious Saviour-son. Their gifts remembered as thoughtful treasures, foreshadowing and highlighting the purpose of the newborn King.
They traveled a great distance. Theirs was a journey of sacrifice, with the risks of powerful threats. They traveled far, following a star. They came to proclaim that this babe was King forever, worthy of worship. They were filled with joy, entered into Christ's presence, and fell down and worshipped Him.

So what can we do?
Feast.
Be glad.
Give.
Receive.
Worship.
For this is a time to remember and celebrate the birth of the King of all things, the Saviour of the world, the Redeemer of our souls, the Love of our lives.

"Pray'r and praising, all men raising, worship Him, God Most High ... " (We Three Kings)

"Where is the newborn King of the Jews? We have seen His star as it arose and we have come to worship Him." (Matthew 2:2, NLT)
"They fell down before Him and worshipped Him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh." (Matthew 2:11, NLT)
